Sarah's mother, Elizabeth Decker, who's feeling guilt-ridden over the death of her pregnant oldest daughter, decides to seek supernatural help from a local medium, Madame Serafina. At a séance, someone uses the cloak of darkness to stab to death Mrs. Gittings, a woman also hoping to contact a deceased family member. Since the séance participants were all holding each others' hands throughout the ritual, suspicion focuses on the medium's accomplice. Sarah helps her policeman friend, Det. Sgt. I have been purchasing Stephen Pastis' wall calendars from Amazon for the last 4 years. This book is fun. The main character, Sophia, was presented in quite a humanly and believable way. But from the strictly logical, proof theoretic aspects, Hilbert systems prove to be less appealing. And what does "salt to taste" mean? Fortunately, Bittman's book takes these things into account and is very good at not making assumptions on the cooking level of the reader. Joseph J. I found the book really useful.
