The writer bears his soul in such a way, he draws you into his soul. HtCE is designed to give you as much information as possible about everything. As a fan of Fritz Scholder I enjoyed this edition that includes samples of his works from many years through 1976. While these are fun, in retrospect, I sure would have preferred more Futurians stories instead.
Overall this is a good assortment of stories from the beginning of the new X-Men's second decade.. The stories interweave commercial, medicinal, economic, and social roles played by plants over time, however, it can be a bit disorganized and jumpy at times, and you occasionally find yourself thinking, "so what's the point of this paragraph?"--a better editor could have tightened this up.
A major failure is that the author didn't convince me that history changed because of these plants--there's often no clear before-and-after picture drawn by the stories. I enjoy his odd but humorous comic genius. by showing how
