Editorial : About the AuthorPeter O’Donnell wrote in many media, but achieved international success when he created Modesty Blaise, which was first published in 1963. There has even been a film and a TV version of the character, as well as a series of bestselling novels.
The stories interweave commercial, medicinal, economic, and social roles played by plants over time, however, it can be a bit disorganized and jumpy at times, and you occasionally find yourself thinking, "so what's the point of this paragraph?"--a better editor could have tightened this up.
A major failure is that the author didn't convince me that history changed because of these plants--there's often no clear before-and-after picture drawn by the stories. That was the perspective through which I read the book: how can I use the suggestions Locke makes for business to improve their online presence to grow my own audience. The stories in here are illuminating, exuberant and full of everything that was right and positive and hopeful about the 1960's. As a boy, too many years ago to contemplate, Masefield's poem with refrain consisting of the names of three South American volcanoes, made an indelible impression on me. All opinions are my own..
